I must admit that I noticed the book but didn't click on it because even though it is a cool cover I did not feel like reading a mystery book. Finally curiosity got the better of me and I am glad it did. I found the book to be well written and edited with a strong story line and satisfying ending, the MCs were engaging and the supporting characters kept the story moving. I will definitely be buying any further books in this series and as the author demonstrated skilled work I will certainly be looking at their other books.
This was the sweetest urban fantasy I've ever read. I liked the world the author started to build. The psychics work alongside police detectives to bring criminals to justice by using their gifts to find the truth. It makes them invaluable and the detective's work easier. This is low angst, medium heat romance told from Jon's POV only. (although epilogue afforded a glimpse into Donovan's mind, so that was a treat).I liked Jonathan Bane. He has the ability to see emotions that manifest in colors in every person but his life is challenging because he destroys anything electronic around him and sees too much without wanting to. Many would think him a menace. He gave up on personal happiness since one time he tried, it didn't work out well. But he will settle for a solid work partner. What he gets is the best of both worlds. I liked Jon's vibrancy, his zest for life despite the difficulties he encounters every day. He is a genuine person who cares about people around him. I loved his family, his niece Skylar was a riot!Donovan Havili has been judged for his appearance all his life. His size intimidates not only his possible coworkers but makes any personal encounters almost impossible. Jon sees Donovan's kindness, patience and generosity as soon as he sets his eyes on him. For the first time Donovan feels accepted and respected. His patience and protectiveness makes him perfect partner for Jon. But Jon being his amazing self, and Donovan can't help but fall for Jon fast hook, line and sinker.These two were so cute together. Jon's need to be protected and cherished was fully met by Donovan's need to be the protector and provider of everything Jon might possibly need. It felt like they were made for each other. Despite them declaring their feelings in the end, the relationship was still new and the feelings will deepen later in the series, it seems. I was fond of these two men by the time the book was over.The work Jon and Donovan were doing was a uncommon. They were constantly on the go, and their help was invaluable. The case they investigated this time was a bit of a conundrum. Truth that was and wasn't, actions that contradicted the facts, shooting that didn't make sense and the victim who is is not what they seem. I liked the case. As with all the psychics, the investigation was unconventional just as the result was. This was a well-written PNR romance, and I am curious to know what happens next. I recommend it!
Simply said, I adored Jon and Donovan. Their relationship really is the heart of this book and they've cemented themselves as one of my favourite m/m couples simply because of the way they actually' talk to each other.Overall, this is probably a 4-star read, but I loved Jon and Donovan so much that I'm giving it a five. The person who was shooting at Jon became obvious the moment it happened, so I'm surprised it took them both so long to figure it out. And some of the world-building was missing: how long have psychic people been around? Were they always accepted? How did that relationship with the police unfold? Are we in a future world? (Didn't seem like it.)Despite these two small niggles, and a need for a final pass with a copyeditor, this was a fun, light-hearted, low-angst novel. It's told in first person POV uniquely from Jon's perspective, but he's such a likeable character that I never felt the need to be away from him. And because he has such a unique view of seeing the world, we're never left wondering what his scene partners are feeling, because Jon knows everything.Honestly, this was so good. I loved it. Jon is just such an optimistic guy that you can't help but love him, and Dominic's protective instincts are just [insert heart eyes].
First time I’ve read this author and I am so glad I did! I loved this book and hope this is the beginning of a series. I liked the concept of Physics and their anchors, and Jon’s unique talent. I really enjoyed that Donavan’s character has such intimidating outside but such a wonderful inside. This book also had some mystery with a bit of a twist at the end. I think with the characters working for a PI agency and consulting with police could make for a wonderful series!
I was caught up in this book from the moment I started reading and the story kept me hooked until the end. Told from the perspective of Jon, a psychic detective, it followed him from gaining a new partner through doing readings for the police and working on various cases. I found the concept of various psychic powers and their anchors to be believable in the context of the story and enjoyed how Jon and Donovan eventually came together. While the detective work and psychic investigating features prominently, the heart of it was the two of them and Jon finally realizing that he was worthy and that he and Donovan belonged together. There was also plenty of humor and I loved the addition of Jon's "death touch" to electronics because of his particular flavor of psychic power. I sincerely hope the author has plans for future books about them, because I will definitely read them, along with rereading this one.I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.
