Although there are some beautiful color plates in this book it is only useful as an aid to identification of species. It fails to give any information about the birds, their distribution,habitat or calls and as such is only of very little use to true "birders".Photographers or tourists on the other hand might find it somewhat useful. I felt the need to return this item that was purchased by accident, believing it to be more informative.
It's a nice publication, especially if you have a color device on which to display it. But it's not all-inclusive. I came back from Kenya with a whole bunch of bird photos which don't seem to be in this book.
Some birds' heads are in the shadows or out of focus. I expected more from a photography book. Also, while I realize that not all birds are represented, some of the most common ones (kites, common bulbuls) are missing. I would recommend this book only if you'd rather have a guide on your iPad.
This is a wonderful field guide,and very easy to use.And it has beautiful pictures, instead of the drawings most books have.This bird guide is very well arranged,grouping everything from Barbets to Woodpeckers.It covers many birds in Kenya,and Tanzania,you're likely to see nearby woods, waterholes, and streams.And this ebook makes it easy to look them up,using it on your cell phone or tablet.Roland Smeets is one of the leading photographers in Africa,with a fabulous eye for details,and again he brought the animals to lifeI already bought several ebooks from him ,and can only highly recommended them to everyone.
Nice pics but no info???Give me something to read: size of bird, food they eat, where specially located...A little bummed out about book.
the birds of kenya and tanzania is colorful and easy to use. Very portable on the ipad! We used it on our travels.
The book is a series of pictures with links to websites. I was expecting information about each bird without needing to redirect to the Internet for information. It is not a useful guide if you are on Safari and unable to access the Internet.
